I have no idea what kind of car this is. When I zoom in, I can't really make out the brand. So who knows what this is? It's pretty. Lots of chrome.

It's a Triumph, but I'm not sure which one. Shall do some googling.
Edit: Looks to be a Triumph Roadster . Original name :)

It's a Triumph 2000 Roadster. The first new post-war Triumph first made in 1946 as the 1800 Roadster. In 1948 it got a 2-litre engine and went out of production in 1949. It's famous for starring in the British TV series Bergerac (1981-91) and for having a rumble seat with a pop-up windscreen. This particular car was registered in 1949 and, weirdly, has not been on the road since 1985.

How do you know that it's not on the road? Is there a registry? It's a beautiful car. Thanks for the information too!

You're welcome - If you go here: taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/app/enquirytaxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/app/enquiry you'll find the DVLA database (DVLA UK equivalent of the DMV, only it's at the equivalent of federal level because England is small!). You can look up any car registered in the UK there if you have the licence plate and the make. If it's still taxed (equivalent of having current licence plates) it will say so, and if the tax lapsed, it gives the date it lapsed. Or if the car has been junked properly, it won't be able to find a record for it.
It's fun to play with, if you watch old British movies and write down the plates of cars driving by in the background, you can waste hours on there seeing if the cars are still around!

Hmmm, apparently pasting the URL into kinja doesn't really work. Here's a proper link .
These Triumphs are considered pretty desirable, so I'm surprised this one is off the road as it had survived that long and looks in really good condition. Maybe it was in a crash or something and is still in someone's barn or garage.

It is fun ;) If you have more pictures from your holiday that show any cars licence plates, you can check them on there. I wonder if that Metro and the Datsun in your pic of the Triumph are still around (I doubt it!)
